BTG Slovenia

BTG mednarodna spedicija in logistika d.o.o. in Maribor / Slovenia now looks back on four successful years of forwarding business.
Where initially mainly part and full loads were dispatched to Germany, in the meantime the range of services has changed significantly. Today, six staff members, under the management of Mr. Zlatko Pezdicek, take care of European groupage traffic, part and full loads, national distribution traffic and customs clearances.
Furthermore, warehouse storage space of up to 200 pallet spaces is available for rent.

The Holy Saint Barbara and Saint Michel ...
Holy figures are not something you transport every day.
At the end of August 2011 our dispatching clerks Mrs. Bergbauer and Mr. Rauch were faced with the truly sensitive transport of wooden holy statues.
Just the statue of Saint Barbara alone is valued at € 250.000, of course without even considering its sentimental value.
The statues of Saint Barbara and Saint Michel were collected from the Church of St. Barbara in Peissenberg, expertly fixed down on the trailer, transported to Nuremberg to be treated for woodworm and then return-transported.

Project Forwarding „Made by BTG“

BTG’s branch office in Neuss has been expanding its new business segment “Project Forwarding”!
Project forwarding is the „pinnacle“ for any logistics company and represents a great challenge for all involved.
In addition to a meticulous planning and coordination of the many different parties involved, it is especially the technical knowledge of our clients’ products and the vast experience of our staff that counts most.
The proper selection or combination of modes of transport, taking into consideration the dimensions of the cargo involved, the loading and unloading possibilities, the setting of a deadline as well as the traffic-
related accessibility of the consignee, together with the requirement for absolute transport cost-effectiveness; all this can only be done by professionals.
If in addition the transport crosses customs borders, then accuracy in the documentation is also essential!
This is especially important in the case of exporting industrial equipment or machine tools in the states of the former Soviet Union!
That’s why Klaus Raschke, the Branch Office Manager of BTG Neuss, is especially pleased to have recruited two real project business experts for our company.
Since 1st August 2011 our new colleagues Herbert Fuge and Eduard Fuge are your contacts for sales and operational consulting and implementation and are mainly responsible for all questions concerning transports in general and project business in particular!

Incidentally, BTG Neuss also takes care of basic things, such as the timely transfer or supply of groupage, part or full loads all over Europe!
It doesn’t always have to be an asphalt cutting machine going to Kazakhstan (Customer: „Michael Zeiler machines,“ Gemünden www.mz-maschines.com) or a furnace of 6.21 m width (Customer: INTEC, Niederzier www.intec-solutions.de) as the pictures might suggest!
Your BTG-Team in Neuss will be pleased to receive your enquiries!

Oldtimer of the air transported by ship to Dallas

Two original vintage BÜCKER airplanes were shipped by sea freight to Dallas Texas / USA.
The planes are about 70 years old and were originally used for stunt flying and flight training.
BTG Langweid received the transport order from their long-term client Bitz-Flugzeugbau GmbH in Augsburg.
This small but noble company specializes in the restoration of Bücker and Klemm vintage aircrafts.
In the field of flying, Bitz-Flugzeugbau GmbH has a worldwide reputation.
For example, for the film “The Blue Max”, which deals with the famous aviator Baron von Richthofen, Bitz accurately recreated two Fokker Dill aircraft of this famous fighter pilot.
To transport the valuable cargo the planes were partly disassembled and stowed in a 40‘ container.

Exclusive Logistics Partner
In the last 3 months, BTG Expo GmbH has succeeded in being nominated by the Russian exhibition organizers ITE Siberian Fair and Krasnodarexpo as their exclusive logistics partner for the exhibition sites of Krasnodar and Novosibirsk.
The economic centre of Krasnodar in Southern Russia, situated in the immediate vicinity of Sochi, is developing just as “faster-than-average” as the Novosibirsk region, situated in the economic heart of Siberia.

OOO BTG Exhibition Logistics on course to success
In a very short space of time OOO BTG Logistics Exhibition, founded in October 2010, has been able to win over a large number of individual exhibiting clients.
One outstanding project was the overall handling of the exhibition „Technical, Scientific and Innovative Achievements of Russia“ from 12th to 15th May 2011 in Madrid. Within the scope of this exhibition a total of 224 Russian companies presented their latest scientific and technological innovative projects. Companies involved included ROSNANO, ROSATOM, Rosoboronexport and RZHD Russian Railway, to name but a few.

AEO Certification

In May of this year BTG Internationale Spedition GmbH obtained the AEO status from the chief customs office in Augsburg. Thus BTG counts as being particularly reliable and trustworthy and can make use of special privileges within the scope of the customs clearance procedures. The status applies for all 11 branch offices.

AEO stands for Authorised Economic Operator (AEO). The aim of the initiative is to prevent obscure business practices in a globalized world and to make international supply chains more transparent and thus more secure. In the meantime the AEO certification is perceived worldwide as an important feature of quality and safety, because this certification confirms that a company is a reliable and trustworthy partner in international trade management. Another advantage for the certified companies: All customs formalities can be handled and completed more efficiently.

BTG Neuss consequently renews its Fleet

As reported, over the past few years the trucks used for local and long distance traffic have already been replaced with low emission vehicles of the EURO 5 and now EURO 6 generation. Now it’s the turn of the semi-trailers and swap bodies to be replaced.

As you can see in the photos, particular attention has been paid here to the aspect of securing the loads – especially in view of the delicate issue of “hazardous goods”.

In addition, of course, the focus of the renewal programme was laid on „better capacity utilization“ and “consignment-friendly loading“ with double-stack technology.

Klaus Raschke, our Branch Office Manager in Neuss, is convinced that the investment made in the semi-trailers with double-stack technology is not only an important step towards the better economic management of road services, but also benefits our customers through superior damage prevention and is an active contribution to improving road safety.

Third Participation at the TransRussia in Moscow

From 26th to 29th April 2011 the 16th TransRussia exhibition, one of the main platforms for the transport and logistics sector, took place in Moscow.
BTG Internationale Spedition and OOO BTG Internationale Spedition Moscow successfully took part in this exhibition for the third time and were again able to make many important contacts.
With over 500 exhibitors from 30 countries, an exhibition area of 16.900 m² and more than 17.000 visitors, TransRussia had a very active participation again this year.

Stuttgart Economic Congress “Top women“

Yvette Wohlfarth (Branch Manager Plochingen BTG) was a speaker during the Stuttgart Economic Congress “Top women: Ways to the very top „
This event, to which the Ministry of Economy for Baden-Wuerttemberg had invited representatives of various industrial braches, took place on 13th May 2011 and proved to be very popular. Nearly 400 women in or on their way into management positions had come to learn about the latest future trends in the economy, to network with each other and to exchange experiences.
In the allocation of company managerial positions there is still a clear imbalance between men and women.
Less than a third of all management positions throughout Germany are occupied by women, although women‘s employment in general has been continuously increasing over the years and the total share of females in the labour-force is now almost 46%.
At 6% the share of women in management positions in the freight forwarding and logistics industry is even substantially lower.
„At BTG we are already one whole step further on,“ explains Yvette Wohlfarth.
„In our company, the rate of women in management positions is well above the industry average!”
After all, in four branch offices of the BTG group, the branch manager position is in female hand (Frankfurt, Kempten, Plochingen and BTG Messe-Spedition in Augsburg)!
In the 90-minute forum Yvette Wohlfarth passed on her tips and experiences regarding training, promotional opportunities, challenges and flexibility (compatibility of family and job) to the interested and well-participating audience of the freight forwarding and logistics forum.
The contributions were rounded off with in-depth commentary from the invited expert Mr Andrea Marongiu (Managing Director Transport & Logistics Baden-Württemberg e.V.)

Asphalt Milling Machine for Road Construction in Malaysia

At the end of January 2011 Alexandra Delforge – who works as Regional Sales Manager in our Neuss branch office – received an enquiry from Messrs. Michael Zeiler Machines in Gemuenden – a specialist in the field of construction machinery.

The task was to ship a „monster“ with over 37 tons of total weight and dimensions of 12.60 m x 2.65 m x 3.00 m for a German customer, from a location in Holland via the port of Zeebrugge in Belgium to Port Klang in Malaysia. And of course the transport was under time pressure due to a fixed shipment date.

But all restrictions from the customs clearance side, as well as the last-minute shipment were mastered to the full satisfaction of the customer. Ultimately, even the transport costs were optimized, as the machine was loaded on a Ro-Ro service without costly multiple-handling, as would have been the case when using container flats in bulk cargo with an additional necessary seaworthy packaging of the machine.

All in all, in keeping with our slogan: „BTG - The better way“!

IFLN Meeting - Vietnam

IFLN – 18th General Assembly in Vietnam

BTG Internationale Spedition, took part in the 18th General Assembly from 18th to 20th April 2011 in Vietnam. The venue Vietnam underlined the importance of an emerging economic region in South-East Asia.
The feedback of the over 200 participants from around the world has been extremely positive. The members used this platform for important discussions and to build up business relations.
In two workshops partners from all over the world were able to take up and discuss common issues together.

An important point of the congress was the introduction of a new member platform (M.I.P), which offers an even more effective exchange of information and also ensures important standards in working co-operations. For BTG Internationale Spedition GmbH this means a faster and higher quality network for the smooth handling of all worldwide transport and logistics orders.

CIMT 2011 Beijing = 20th BTG - CIMT Anniversary
Since 1991, BTG Messe-Spedition GmbH has constantly been appointed as the forwarding agent for the exhibition logistics of the German participation at the CIMT in Beijing. BTG Suisse was again appointed as the official forwarding agent for the Swiss Pavilion. BTG China was very busy handling the local consignments and also gave strong support in taking care of the German and Swiss consignments as well.
In February 2011 BTG MESSE-SPEDITION and BTG SUISSE transported altogether 713 t / 3.099 m³ of sea freight destined for Xingang. 53 t / 205 m³ of air freight cargo arrived at Beijing airport on schedule and 118 t / 466 m³ of local goods were delivered by truck to the CIMT exhibition.

322 t / 1.425 m³ of goods stayed in China and were transported by truck to the customers or the bonded warehouse.

Many thanks to the BTG crew in the office, also to BTG Bremen, BTG Frankfurt and BTG Munich, who through their support ensured a smooth running of events.

Green Logistics

In the context of global climate change the „carbon footprint“ for products and services is on everyone‘s lips. Many enterprises are in many different ways currently trying to portrait a CO2-footprint for their company, although there is not yet a standardized and ultimately comparable and verified method of doing so.
At UN-level attempts are being made at the moment to work out precisely these standards, but based on the ISO 14067 „Carbon Footprint of Products“ there is currently only a draft with respect to specific definitions and the procedure for determining the data available. As a medium-sized company - that must budget its resources – we cannot afford a hasty reaction in this matter, which later might find us overtaken by such official standards and as a result ruin all previous efforts made on our part.

However, in the frame of our corporate and social responsibility, we simply cannot bury our heads in the sand or postpone the necessary steps indefinitely.
For this reason – as previously reported - BTG Neuss has been consequently upgrading its fleet since 2009 in order to meet the emission standards of EURO5 or EURO6 (mandatory as of 01.01.2015).
In addition to this, since January 2010 BTG Neuss has been using CO2-neutral “green electricity” from 100% water power supplied by the municipal electric company in Neuss and thus the whole freight terminal – including heating and air conditioning systems using high-efficiency heat pumps – is powered with clean energy. This means that no fossil fuels are being used making BTG Neuss the first CO2-neutral freight terminal of the BTG Group!
As a further step in improving the CO2 balance and the „carbon footprint“, with regard to traffic to and from Great Britain and Ireland, BTG Neuss is putting its focus on working with Eurotunnel.
For 2010 BTG Neuss was certified as having a CO2-saving of 68 t.
As well as the economic and quality improvements, we want to offer our customers an added value or “environmental” advantage, which is automatically accessible to every user of our services.
And all this without using CO2-critical high-gloss brochures, questionable calculation models and related additional costs such as is being implemented by two large state logistics companies in Germany.
BTG’s message is: „Practice-orientated “Green Logistics“ does work, particularly in German middle sized companies!”

25 years BTG Plochingen

In 1979, the Stuttgart branch office of BTG Internationale Spedition GmbH was founded.
Werner Meixner and Victor Brand started their career at the time with BTG in Stuttgart Obertürkheim.
For seven years transports were organized and carried out from there – primarily to and from Ireland and Great Britain.
Then due to growth, the branch office had to move premises.
This meant 25 years ago was the start as „branch office Plochingen”.
The staff moved to the new premises in the Reichenbach Street, which was later renamed to the present Filsallee.
This year, with great pride and joy, we celebrate our 25th anniversary.
BTG Plochingen would like to thank all our customers, partners and contractors for their co-operation, trust and loyalty.

2010

BTG opens its own subsidiary in Russia

In order to cope with the rapid development of BTG’s business activities in Russia and to set the course for further growth, necessary steps were implemented to open a BTG subsidiary in Russia.

In November 2010, OOO BTG Internationale Spedition was officially registered in Moscow’s commercial register.

The new company is a joint venture between BTG Expo GmbH and BTG Internationale Spedition GmbH, which takes care of the conception and implementation of integrated transport and logistics solutions, as well as looking after existing customers and acquiring new customers in Russia.

The main business focus lies in the field of imports from Germany and Western Europe, as well as from China to Russia!

Your nearest BTG branch office will be pleased to answer any questions you may have, or supply you with individual transport and logistics concepts especially for your requirements.

Moscow International Automobile Salon

The MIAS 2010 is certainly one of the most important events for the automotive industry and was held this year between 25th August and 5th September in the Crocus Expo International Exhibition Centre, Moscow.
BTG Expo handled 158 full trailer loads and 4.200 m³ of freight and empties storage for this important event.
Much of the freight entrusted to us consisted of stand building materials.
In addition, we also transported many cars, concept cars and vehicles, which were presented to the public for the first time as a world premiere. The highlights here were a Mercedes Concept Car X 218 valued at EUR 3,000,000 and an Audi A8 hybrid with a value of EUR 2,000,000.

One curiosity and challenge was an Opel Flextreme GTE concept car, which owing to its technical nature could under no circumstances be exposed to temperatures of over 40° C. Due to the high summer temperatures in Moscow, this was only possible through using a refrigerated truck for the transport!
A difficult situation for this year‘s event was certainly posed by the devastating forest fires that prevailed during this period in large parts of Russia and around Moscow.
Due to the heavy smoke pollution in the city of Moscow, for a short time it wasn’t clear if the show could even take place!
In addition, some stand building and installation teams travelled to Moscow extremely decimated because of health concerns, which of course was also an added challenge for us.

BTG Expo was present on site with a total of 16 employees (both Russian and German colleagues) and worked among others for the following companies or their contractors:
AUDI, BMW, Citroen, Chrysler, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, Kia, Land Rover, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot, Subaru

BTG China is granted an “A” license!

In one of our last newsletter we already announced that through opening BTG International Freight Forwarding (Beijing) Co. Ltd. (BTG China), the foundation for the further expansion of BTG’s business activities in China had been laid.

Since the summer of 2010 BTG China now operates under the “A” license, which allows our subsidiary to handle consignments independently, without involving an external customs broker. BTG China is thus one of the first foreign-invested, medium-sized logistics companies in China that holds the coveted „A“ license and employs its own customs broker.

The business activities cover exhibition and event logistics for Chinese exhibitors abroad, appointments as official site agent for exhibitions in China and the related handling of all incoming international exhibits and of course the handling of standard air and sea transports in cooperation with BTG branch offices and partners worldwide.

Ship’s engine for Chile

The third ship’s engine already within a year leaves the Port of Hamburg.

On behalf of Finning Chile S.A. and in cooperation with our partner DECA Express S.A. in Santiago de Chile, BTG’s Hamburg branch office has just shipped the currently largest ship’s engine built by Caterpillar Motoren GmbH & Co. KG in Kiel to San Antonio in Chile, from where it was transported to a shipyard 1.000 km further in the south.

The eight-cylinder engine of type 8 M 32 C weighing 47.000 kg, measuring 700 x 245 x 376 cm (length x width x height), with an engine performance of 4.000 Kw (approx. 5.440 horsepower) will replace the aging motor of a Ro-Ro ship which transports freight and vehicles and so reduce the emission output and fuel consumption of this ship.

In addition to the basic engine a 40‘ container with accessories such as fresh water pumps, oil and diesel pumps, oil coolers, clutch parts, consoles for future monitoring as well as assembly materials and lots of small items was also shipped.

Prior to collecting the engine in Kiel, an employee of BTG Internationale Spedition GmbH in Hamburg, together with the responsible business manager of Finning Chile SA, was present to witness the final test run of the engine, followed by an extensive factory tour, where he was shown how such a unit is manufactured – from the casting of the engine block up to final assembly.

Earlier this year, an identical engine was already transported to San Antonio in Chile, in order to repair a trawler lying idle with a motor defect in the dockyard there.

BTG Internationale Spedition GmbH in Hamburg delivered a smaller version of this engine, along with the propeller shaft, propeller and other accessories and assembly parts to a shipyard in China, where a newly built fishing trawler awaited its new “centrepiece”.

BTG Frankfurt charters Antonov

On 18th September BTG Frankfurt’s airfreight professionals chartered an Antonov 124-100 aircraft from Munich to Abu Dhabi.

BTG once again put its ability to carry out large projects to the test and in so doing provided two important clients - Rheinmetall and Krauss-Maffei Wegemann – with a smooth operating airfreight service.

With a cargo hold of 36.50 m × 6.40 m × 4.40 m and a maximum cargo capacity of 120 tons, the Antonov is one of the largest freight planes in civil aviation!

BTG Plochingen expands its East European Transport Department!

The range of services includes:
part and full loads as well as groupage road transports, and also extra-large and heavy-load transports, rail and container transports as well as air freight.

20,000 Pallets of Garden Furniture

In April BTG’s Bremen branch office took care of one of the largest retail supply projects the BTG Group has ever handled since going into business.
On behalf of our client MILES Fashion GmbH approx. 20,000 pallets of garden furniture transported on approx. 700 trucks were delivered on schedule to the central warehouses of a nationwide operating retail chain.
BTG Bremen’s other logistics services included the collection and onward transport of approx. six hundred 40’ containers from the German ports of Bremerhaven and Hamburg, also the delivery of the containers to our warehouse in Bremen as well as unpacking, commissioning and storage of the goods.
Despite a lack of loading space in the period just after the Easter holidays, the scheduled delivery of the goods was accomplished through close cooperation with our customer and a massive effort on the part of the BTG Bremen team.

Swabia’s future is (also) being trained by BTG Kempten!

On 14th April 2010 our trainee Carmen Hofer attended a ceremonial awards event hosted by the Chamber of Commerce in Kempten and received the award as the “Best Freight Forwarding and Logistics Graduate of 2009/2010 in the Allgäu and Lindau region”.

High-ranking regional personalities such as Dr. Ulrich Netzer (Mayor of the city of Kempten), Dr. Gerd Müller (Parliamentary Secretary) and Peter Steel (CEO of Hochland AG in Heimenkirch) took the opportunity to personally address the attending trainees with some practical orientated and interesting speeches.

The general tenor of all was: Top performances must be honoured, however professional training only stands at the beginning of the professional career ladder.

We would like to congratulate all the award winners and especially Carmen Hofer.
We are proud of your accomplishments and also somewhat proud to have been your training company.

Import of a Formula 1 racing car from Canada to Germany

Who wouldn’t like to see an original Formula 1 racing car close up?

In March of this year the employees of BTG Frankfurt and Hamburg had exactly this rare pleasure, as the racing car was imported from Canada to Germany via our two branch offices.

Alexander Stein (BTG Frankfurt) was responsible for the handling of the racing car, which measured 4,50 x 2,00 x 0,80 m and weighed 555 kg.

For all racing experts: The racing car in question was the Benetton B194-08, which Michael Schumacher drove at the Grand Prix in Adelaide (Australia) from 11th to 13th November 1994, where he became the first German Formula 1 Champion.
BTG was supported in this transport project by our partner in Canada.

BTG Internationale Spedition GmbH strengthens its logistics activities

The further development of the logistics activities is high on the list of priorities with BTG Internationale Spedition GmbH.
For this reason back in September 2009 a position for a nationwide Logistics Manager was created and occupied by Mr. Michael Grabs.

As a further step, on 1st January 2010 BTG Internationale Spedition GmbH took over all the shares of BTG Warehouse Services (BWS), headquartered in Bobingen.
For ten years now the company has been operating on the former site of Hoechst AG as an in-house logistics partner for Trevira GmbH, Johns Manville Ltd. and Teijin Monofilament Germany GmbH.

Within and outside the Bobingen site, BWS manages more than 70.000m² of storage space, both for the customers mentioned above at the former Hoechst site, as well as for third party companies.
In addition to the storage and removal from storage of goods, the activities include the maintenance and management of the production line seven days a week, the handling and cleaning of reusable spools, the operation of the recyclable press machine, on site transport and much more.

Some manufacturing and retail companies have already put the possibilities of BWS to use and have moved into the existing office and warehouse space in Bobingen.
For any other interested companies, whether for selfmanagement, or taking advantage of the many opportunities and resources of BWS in Bobingen, there are still areas of 2,000 – 4,000 m² and office units of 180 m² available.

A new doorway for St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh

Late last year, BTG Plochingen was assigned by their client BLASI GmbH, Mahlberg, to make an interesting delivery to Scotland. It was a special door construction of almost 6 meters in length and of considerable weight for the St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh.

St. Giles Cathedral is one of the most important tourist attractions of the city of Edinburgh in
Scotland. It is located along the famous Royal Mile, known as the main axis of the old city, about 500 meters east of Edinburgh Castle.

The first ever written mention of a church on this site dates back to the year 854. Construction of the current building began around the year 1120. After a fire in 1385 the church was rebuilt in Gothic style, the tower was only completed in 1495. (Source: Wikipedia)

The delivery of the door to this central location, in the midst of a very beautiful but also very narrow and bustling city, required good preparation and well organised cooperation with BTG’s Scottish partner – Currie European.

Thanks to the professional work of all parties involved everything went perfectly and so the visitors to St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh can now enjoy the new doorway.

BLASI GmbH, Mahlberg specializes in the design and manufacture of automatic
door systems, partitions and security peripherals.

On their homepage at www.blasi.info you will find numerous interesting references. Just to name a few: Rolls Royce, Goodwood • L‘Oreal, Paris • Samsung, Seoul • Reichstag, Berlin • Ferrari, Wiesbaden • Sony Center, Berlin • Hotel Ritz, Paris • European Parliament, Strasbourg

Premium Espresso from Dusseldorf to the world

Since mid-December 2009, BTG Neuss has been active as a logistics service provider for MariaSole GmbH, Düsseldorf. Over the past few years, the company „MariaSole“, which only started operating in 2007, has earned itself an excellent reputation on the market as a provider of particularly well
digestible and excellent tasting premium espresso coffee. This was achieved through choosing a special range of green coffee suppliers and also through a particularly gentle drum roasting procedure over olive tree wood, a procedure which only a few selected manufacturers in Italy – the home of the company founder Mariella Krebs – are capable of doing.

To ensure a smooth transport process from the arrival of the green coffee in Hamburg up to the delivery to the manufactures in Italy and the subsequent collection in Italy, the transport to the logistics warehouse and delivery to the delicatessen stores, MariaSole has decided to assign BTG Neuss as their freight forwarder.

In addition to the mere transport activities, it is mainly logistics services that are called for.
These include the organisation and maintenance of a bonded warehouse for the excisable product coffee, as well as all the procedures necessary in a logistics warehouse, starting with the incoming goods and the corresponding quality control, and continuing with packaging, kitting and com-missioning.

BTG Neuss is proud to have MariaSole, a provider of premium products, as a customer. With their product “MariaSole Caffè Espresso”, MariaSole won the TASTE ’07 award at the Anuga 2007, for the “most innovative European espresso coffee” and already has notable addresses such as the Saudi
royal family on their list of clients.

BTG Neuss sets the course for „environmentally friendly“ logistics

As the majority of the national and international long-distance serving trucks were already replaced by vehicles with the most modern and efficient engine technology with the EURO 5 emissions standard classification in 2009, the distribution vehicles for local deliveries and collections are now also gradually being
replaced.

In the first week of January, in close coordination with our partners, we were already able to make use of 2 vehicles with EURO 5 emissions classification (a Mercedes 816 and a DAF 45-220). These vehicles replaced older trucks in the Rhine-Ruhr region.

This means the colleagues in Neuss have already made a start in 2010 to realize their high ambitions - even in the field of sustainable economic development.

Aircraft tractors for the International Airport of Dallas / USA

Our client, Goldhofer AG a vehicle manufacturer in Memmingen, has supplied the international airport of Dallas / USA with three type AST-2F aircraft tractors.

In cooperation with their American partner AM-Worldwide, BTG Bremen ensured a smooth sea transport from Bremerhaven to Houston and the timely onward transport of the extra-wide aircraft tractors, which measured
8.40 x 3.30 x 1.85 m and weighed 16.400 kg, per low-loader truck to Dallas Airport.
The BTG team in Bremen was once again able to demonstrate its expertise in the field of special transports worldwide.

Quicker than the fire brigade ...

In the last quarter of 2009, BTG was assigned with a project to supply fire engines to various airports in Taiwan.

The three-axle vehicles were transported from the Munich vicinity on heavy goods vehicles and despite some serious freak weather conditions and a tight schedule, reached the loading terminal in Bremerhaven in good time, where they were then transported by RoRo ship to Keelung Harbour in Taiwan. Once they arrived there the customs clearance procedure and the onward transport was then taken over by BTG’s Taiwanese partner.

Among other destinations, the vehicles were delivered to the airports of Wang An and Magong on an group of islands west of Taiwan’s main Island (Pescador Island), as well as to the airport in the capital Taipei.

Just in time for the corn harvest in South Africa

At the beginning of August 2009 the corn picking machine shown here should have been transported by airfreight directly from the Italian manufacturer of the German client to South Africa.
However, as the Italian holiday season was just around the corner, it was impossible to find a packing company in Italy, who could construct a transport box for this machine on time. Ultimately there was no alternative but to make a detour via Germany. Through a special transport overnight the machine was transferred from the region near the Italian-French border to Munich. BTG’s packaging manufacturing partner then produced the oversized box, and after completion the machine was flown to Johannesburg on a 747 cargo airplane. The corn picking machine arrived just in time for the ongoing harvest season and was able to be put to use.

Carestream HEALTH visits BTG Plochingen

On 28th January 2010 BTG Plochingen’s England department welcomed four visitors from their UK customer, Carestream Health. Through the sale of the Health Group by the Eastman Kodak Company, Carestream Health has emerged as an autonomous company and after almost 3 years of being independent of Kodak is working with great success on the medical market. Despite winterly road conditions, Angela Amirkhanyan and Jean Marc Boillereau of Carestream Health France (Chalon-sur-Saône) came to the meeting – as did Robin Beaumont of Carestream Health GB (Hemel Hempstead) and Jürgen Wittiger of the Stuttgart Carestream Health office. The talks were held in a pleasant and very friendly atmosphere. Both sides determined that the cooperation, which only began on 14th January 2010, was already working ideally.

BTG Plochingen’s daily departures to the UK and the made-to-measure service package completely fulfil the requirements of Carestream Health as a worldwide leading provider of dental and medical imaging systems and IT solutions, as well as in their role as the exclusive
manufacturer of KODAK Dental Systems.

The products and services for medical image creation and processing are being used in 90% of all hospitals worldwide. Carestream Health employs around 8,000 people worldwide, who serve tens of thousands of customers in over 150 countries.

2009

A Rolls Royce for the wife ...

In July 2009 BTG Internationale Spedition GmbH Munich transported a Rolls Royce from Munich
to Moscow. The exclusive vehicle was destined for a Russian millionaire who wanted to give it to his wife as a present.
The ADAC (Automobile Association in Germany), which specialises in dealing with such valuable vehicles, arranged for the luxury car to be picked up at the car dealer’s premises in Munich and brought to BTG in Oberschleissheim. Then with extreme caution the car was loaded onto the Russian trailer and properly secured for transport.

Franco Vago: Top Specialists in Italy, Portugal and Spain

With immediate effect Franco Vago will actively cooperate with BTG Plochingen in Germany.

In May 2009 the branch offices in Porto, Lisbon and Aveiro started cooperating with the Portugal specialist, BTG Plochingen, and have thus added to BTG’s high standard in this sector.
To intensify this new cooperation, Mr. Joao Henrique Dias (Franco Vago Lisbon) visited BTG Plochingen in September.
Like BTG, Franco Vago has also been working as an international freight forwarder for more than 30 years, showing great success and achieving an excellent reputation during this time.
Founded in Milan, and represented by 30 branch offices on all five continents, this strong partner enables BTG to once again establish a solid basis on which to ensure the best possible handling of its clients’ consignments.

BTG Plochingen: Trainee passes with distinction!

Bruno Pereira, a trainee of BTG Plochingen was honoured on 6th October 2009 at the awards celebration of the Chamber of Commerce Stuttgart /Regional Chamber Esslingen-Nuertingen.
During this ceremony prizes and commendations were given to trainees, who passed the summer 2009 final apprenticeship exams with distinction.

BTG once again appointed as official exhibition forwarder for the Interlift 2009

international trade fair for the elevator industry almost reached the record figures of the year 2007!

Whilst other elevator trade fairs have suffered some sharp declines, Interlift was able to compensate “credit crunch” cancellations through new and returning participants. The Interlift also sets the standards elsewhere. Throughout Bavaria this is the international trade fair with the highest percentage of international participation. With 67% (as of August 09) the share of foreign companies
participating has even risen slightly in comparison to 2007. And with 40 nations (2007: 37) more
countries than ever before were represented at the Interlift. However, the order of the most important
participating countries has not changed very much in 2009. Italy still leads with 68 participating exhibitors, then China (53), Turkey (29) and Spain (28). These countries are followed by the UK (15), Sweden (13), and USA (12) before Greece, Switzerland and France with 8 participants each.

During the Interlift 2009, the long-awaited new exhibition hall 5 was inaugurated. With a completely
column-free floor area of 8,000 m², a clear height of 10 m and the most modern equipment, the largest exhibition hall at the Augsburg fairground now offers excellent presentation possibilities.

BTG Messe-Spedition GmbH was again appointed as the official site agent this year and was responsible for the smooth handling of stand materials and exhibits from many exhibitors from
home and abroad. For the technical handling BTG Messe-Spedition GmbH again used the services of their proven long-standing Augsburg partners such as TLS, GRUMA and Schmidbauer.
BTG ensured a qualified allround-service with 8 specialised members of staff in Augsburg, Bremen and Frankfurt and approximately 40 employees on the operating side for forklifts, cranes, tractors, and warehousing. This all-round-service also included transport and customs clearance as well as the collection and delivery of empty packing materials and extended far beyond the normal handling
at the Augsburg exhibition site.
This year at the Interlift, using 30 forklifts, 2 special city-car cranes, numerous lifting trolleys and hydraulic platforms, BTG moved an estimated freight volume of 25.000 m³ during the build-up and dismantling period.

36 years at BTG!!!

On 31st August 2009, after over 36 years of business activities in a variety of functions within the BTG group, Maria Lorenz retired from business life.

Maria Lorenz has belonged to the BTG group since its foundation in 1973. When the Exhibition
Department was separated from BTG International Spedition GmbH and made into an
independent company – BTG Messe-Spedition GmbH – she first took over the position of
Branch Office Manager in 1988 and from 1993 onwards she was responsible as Managing
Director of the company.
In addition to her position within the BTG Group, Maria Lorenz also held various positions in national and international organizations such as in IELA (International Exhibition Logistics Associates), where
she was a Member of the Board of Management of IELA from 2001 to 2007 and Chairwoman
of the PR Committee from 1993 up until the end of 2006.

From the beginning, Maria Lorenz has always shown great support for many social projects and in 2001 she was a significant factor in the BTG Group’s decision to become a sponsor of the Augsburg charity organization “Bunter Kreis”, which runs an aftercare centre to help children suffering from
cancer and critical and chronicle illnesses and their families.

The Shareholders and Managing Directors of the BTGGroup would like to thank Maria Lorenz for her tireless efforts, her unwavering loyalty, her personal skills and the limitless energy, which she has
put into our company over the last 36 years, all of which have significantly contributed to the
business success of the whole BTG Group.

Successful Exhibition Participation at the TransRussia 2009

From 21st to 24th April 2009 BTG Internationale Spedition and OOO BTG Moscow successfully
participated at the largest Russian Logistics Fair in Moscow.

Despite the impact of the global economic crisis on the development of foreign trade, both exhibitors
and visitors alike rated the business climate as being positive during the exhibition.
This year over 400 exhibitors participated at the 14th International Transport and Logistics Exhibition „TRANSRUSSIA 2009“.

Companies from 30 countries presented themselves on a total of 14,500 m² exhibition space and more than 18,000 visitors guaranteed lively business during the four days of exhibition.
On his return from Moscow, Ariel Kligman - General Manager Development CIS / Baltic States – expressed his surprise at the extremely positive resonance, documented by the large number of contacts, mainly with representatives of Russian companies.
It was definitely the right decision for BTG Internationale Spedition GmbH, to be present together with OOO BTG Moscow at the TransRussia for the first time.

BTG - „Heavy driving“

Heavy transports are of course a part of the BTG Internationale Spedition GmbH service range.
The fact that a heavy transport project was accompanied by a professional camera team is
still an unusual situation for our BTG team.
For the TV series „Spiegel TV DOKU“ the loading of a slag pot carrier from the facility of our client KAMAG Transporttechnik GmbH in Ulm to the port of Bremerhaven was filmed and broadcasted.
The report clearly showed the difficulties and challenges, which a heavy transport project
has to overcome, when the cargo involved has such enormous dimensions as
11.90 x 5.30 x 4.64 meters and a gross weight of 63 tons!

New lighting system for Port Harcourt airport, Nigeria

BTG Augsburg handled the transport of a 13t shipment of airport equipment.

After a fire in August 2007, the airport in Port Harcourt, Nigeria was closed. In addition to the renewal of the runway, a new lighting system had to be installed and a fence had to be built around the airport. The construction of a fence was seen as necessary not only because of an incident where a landing airplane collided with some cows.
BTG organised the transport of the material for the lighting system - a total volume of 13,174 kg and 91,926 m³ - transported via various airports in Germany, France and Belgium to the Nigerian capital Abuja respectively to Lagos. The customs clearance and forwarding to Port Harcourt was partly carried out by the client’s local office and partly by our partner Ebonie World Cargo Express.
Since the beginning of January 2009 international air traffic operations have resumed. The airport is now also being served by European Airlines.

TWOWAY was founded in 1985 by the present Managing Director, Mr. Tommy Kelly and was taken over in 2006 by the Aramex Group, a worldwide active logistics service provider, whose business roots lie in the boom-area Middle East.

At heart, TWOWAY is a company which specialises in „Ireland-UK-Ireland“ express traffic and works nationwide with a network of own offices in Ireland and the UK, as well as in Holland. Apart from the national traffic and various time-defined express products, their range of services also includes worldwide air and sea freight transports.

The cooperation with BTG not only paves the way in Germany, but through the BTG-Group as a whole also gives TWOWAY the opportunity of getting on to the East European markets.
BTG’s high quality standard is an important basis here to meet the demands of the Irish market.

The advantage for BTG and its clients is a closed and homogeneous network for distribution and procurement logistics in Ireland.

BTG Augsburg expands warehousing space

BTG Internationale Spedition GmbH Augsburg has extended its logistics warehouse in Langweid.  In addition to over 4.000 m² of high-rack storage, groupage consignments for England, Ireland, Scandinavia, Benelux and Switzerland are now being handled in the warehouse in the Weber Street. Through this extension, the total cargo handling area in Langweid has increased to over 3.000 m².  The complete handling team has moved into the new especially created office space.
The extension was necessary due to the enormous increase in cargo volume in the Augsburg branch office.

BTG Berlin – Partner in the S.T.a.R. network

S.T.a.R. Systemtransport auf Räder Kooperationsgesellschaft mbH (System Transport on Wheels Cooperation) implements a logistic network, which functions on the basis of a cog-wheel, throughout Germany, Europe and beyond!

In October 1994 there were 27 freight forwarders who joined together under the name of S.T.a.R.
Today, 56 midsized, owner-managed freight forwarding companies in Germany and Europe cooperate with each other.
The primary service of the S.T.a.R.-system is the nationwide distribution, as well as the provisioning of groupage shipments within Germany in a 24/48 hour house/house service.  Furthermore there are daily connection opportunities to all European countries. The S.T.a.R. system works in a so-called HUB and SPOKE-System, which means that every night the trucks of all the individual partners drive to the main and regional Hubs for the daily transhipment of consignments.

The consignments are collected from you today and are already delivered on the next day to the consignee.  Furthermore this system offers such services as counselling, storage facilities at all sites, handling of dangerous goods, package services, groupage distribution of sensitive or non-system compatible goods, C.O.D. service, customer notification and just-in-time deliveries.

The partnership with the S.T.a.R. network complements the existing, long-standing cooperation with VTL (Vernetzte-Transport-Logistik GmbH), in which BTG also acts as shareholder.

BTG Suisse AG & Olympia 2008

Visit of the Organizing Committee of the Beijing Olympic Summer Games to Switzerland
From 8th to 10th May, we were honoured to welcome a delegation of the Organizing Committee of The Beijing Summer Olympic Games (BOCOG) to Switzerland. The group of five headed by Mr. Yu Chunquan (Director of Security Bureau and Transport Department) and Mr. Zhiwei
Pan (IFs Division Chief of Relations and Sports Department) had several visits planned in Switzerland.

Starting point of the 3-day trip was Zurich with a meeting at the World Football Association FIFA
under the chairmanship of Sepp Blatter. After this meeting, a short sightseeing tour to Zurich’s “Uetliberg” mountain was organised. The guests were visibly impressed by the panoramic view of the city of Zurich and as far as the Glarner Alps.

On Friday there was a further meeting on the programme. This time, however, in Lausanne with the Swimming Association FINA and then with the International Olympic Committee (IOC). We would sincerely like to thank AMAG Switzerland (general importer of the VW-Group) for supplying us with a VIP shuttle for the transfer of our visitors. Our guests were very pleased that the VW-Group - also a major sponsor of the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing – was also involved in their visit to Switzerland.

The last leg of the trip was the Swiss city of Geneva, from where our guests returned to Beijing. Between the Olympics and the Paralympics and at the invitation of BOCOG we were able to visit the impressive sports facilities on the Olympic site, although these were officially not accessible for visitors.  For this
unique opportunity we would like to warmly thank Mr. Yu Chunquan!

BTG charters Boeing for Iceland event

On behalf of BTG Messe-Spedition GmbH, BTG Frankfurt chartered an entire Boeing 767-200 from Lufthansa, for a presentation in the winter sport region Bláfjöll, near Reykjavik.
The freight volume amounted to 14.017 kg / 76.218 m³ and included two 17 m³ crates, which wouldn’t have fitted into a “normal” freight machine to Iceland.

On 23.08.08 at the Cologne/Bonn airport, staff of BTG Frankfurt supervised the loading of the chartered airplane with destination Keflavik (50 km south-west of Reykjavik).  The subsequent further transport to Bláfjöll, which is located ca. 30 km south-east of Reykjavik, was carried out by truck.
Staff of BTG Messe-Spedition GmbH travelled to Iceland to take care of the handling and the customs clearance in cooperation with our partner Jónar Transport hf, Reykjavik.
